He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernardo Ornelas and Julia H. Ornelas; his daughter Eva Ornelas; his siblings, Frank Ornelas, Joe Ornelas, B. J. Ornelas, Angela Brewer and Julia Morones (Frank); his parents-in-law, Abran and Josefa Chacon; and his siblings-in-law, Connie Ryan, Jesus Chacon (Lupe), Augustin Chacon (Elvira) and Samuel Corral.

He is survived by: his spouse Lupe Chacon of Santa Rita; his children, Tony Ornelas (Priscilla), Sam Ornelas (Debbie) and Catrina Smith (Rodney); his sister Reyes Corral of Silver City; his grandchildren, Rozlyn Jones (Zach), Kaytlyn Ellingson (James), Marisa Ornelas, Matt Ornelas, Elijah Ornelas and Ava Ornelas; his great grandchildren, Logan Jones and Jackson Jones; his brothers-in-law, Thomas Ryan and Gaspar Chacon (Teresa); his nephew Frank Ryan; his nieces, Raquel Corral-De, Santos, Margaret Ryan and Brandi Costales-Lemme; his grandson Jerod Smith; his son-in-law Rodney Smith; his nephew David Chacon; and also Deanne Miller.

A memorial service will be held at a later date due to the COVID+ pandemic.
