Gabriela Salazar Obituary
Gabriela Salazar, a longtime resident of Santa Rosa passed away on September 16, 2006 at her home following a short illness. Gabriela was born March 30, 1922 in San Ignacio, NM to the home of Luis U. and Rita (Madrid) Romero. She married Jose Ismael Salazar on October 14, 1946 in Santa Rosa. They lived in Pastura for a while before making their home in Santa Rosa.
Gabriela enjoyed quilting, playing bingo, ceramics and going to the casino. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Las Hijas de Maria and the Campos Senior Citizens. Gabriela is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Isamel Salazar, her parents; Luis and Rita Romero, her first husband Frank Gonzales, two sisters; Piedad Lucero and Mercedes Ulibarri, two brothers; Jose and Al Romero, two daughters; Julia Sisneros and Erlinda Gonzales, a set of infant twins and an infant daughter.
Survivors include her sister; Mary Lou Davis and husband Floyd of Conchas, three daughters; Linda Salazar of the family home in Santa Rosa, Cathy Apodaca of Albuquerque, Frances Murray and E.J. Marquez of Albuquerque, four sons; Roy Gonzales and wife Clara, Eddie Salazar and wife Viola, Rudy Salazar and wife Stella and Placido Salazar all of Santa Rosa.
Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren, two beloved Aunts; Albinita Martinez of San Ignacio and Luga Ortiz of Clovis as well as numerous nieces, nephews, a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Monday, September 18, at 7:00 PM from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, NM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 19, at 10:00 also from St. Rose of Lima with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be her grandsons; Dennis Gonzales, Jason Salazar, Jonathan Salazar, Chris Salazar, Michael Salazar, Jose Luis Salazar, Jose Reyes Apodaca, Abel Apodaca and Matthew Salazar.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Moises Herrera, E.J. Marquez, Jorge Chaparro, and the rest of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. All services are entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
