Melvin Edward Perez Obituary
On Tuesday August 16, 2022 Melvin Edward Perez loving son, husband, father and grandfather passed away in his home at age 71.
Melvin was born on March 26, 1951 to Andres and Bobbie Perez in Santa Fe, NM. He graduated as a multisport star from St. Michael's High School in 1969. He continued his basketball career in Big Springs and at Sam Houston State University where he won a National Championship and earned his Bachelors Degree in 1973. He went on to New Mexico Highland University and received his Masters Degree in 1982. He started his teaching career at St. Michaels where he met his first wife Trudy Chavez. They were married 23 years and had two daughters. He retired from Santa Fe High in 2016 after teaching 43 years. He remarried in 2020 to Svetlana Abbott.
Melvin was preceded in death by his father Andres and his first wife Trudy. He is survived by his mother Bobbie, wife Svetlana, sister Sandra, daughters Ashley and Melanie (Fiancé Derrick), grandchildren Mila and Keanu, nephews Eddie and Jovan, niece Bobbie, many cousins and countless friends especially his fraternal brothers Bill, Bob and Gary.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday September 11, 2022 at St. Michaels High School Auxiliary Gym at 1pm. A reception will follow at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles on Early St. at 4pm.
