She was predeceased by: her parents, Grant VandenBerg and Evelyn Alvina VandenBerg (Oines); her husband John M. Nielson; and her siblings, Leo and Gloria.
She is survived by: her daughter Krista Zappe (Steve); her grandsons, Estevan "Stev" Ortega of Santa Fe and Nicolas "Nico" Ortega of Santa Fe; her great grandchildren, Nicolas, Cruz and Camilo Ortega; and her sister Judy Messerschmidt (Loyal) of Sioux Falls. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
