He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Reyes Chavez and Delfinia Archuleta Chavez; his wife Manuela; his children, Angela Chavez (Matthew), Marcus Chavez, José Luís Jujan and Victor Lujan; his grandchildren, Kalib Brock, Mateo Chavez, Francisco Chavez, Celeste Lujan, Dylan Tarango, Angel Lujan, Victor Lujan, Jr. and Frank; and his siblings, Ernest Chavez of Belen, Gloria Visarraga of Santa Fe, Joe D. Chavez (Socorro) of Santa Fe, Rebecca Chavez of Las Cruces, Elijio Chavez of Cerro and José A. Chavez San Ildefonso (Donna). He was also cherished by Numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
