She is survived by: her parents, Richard Simmons and Byrd Simmons; her husband Dana Bowley of Los Lunas; her children, Laura Combs (Alan) of Phoenix, Kristen Hammer (Michael) of Irvine, Calif. and Ryan Bowley (Valerie) of San Diego; her siblings, Rik Simmons (Deborah) of Clearwater, Florida and Debbie Wesbrook (Joe) of Albuquerque; and her grandchildren, Aaron Combs, Kevin Bowley, Danny Bowley, Leena Marie Hammer and Dylan Combs of Phoenix.

“Hello. My name is Reina Hidden and I am so sorry for your loss. I was hoping to get in touch with whoever holds the copyright to "The Bataan Death March" by Joe A. Chavez as told to Melanie Bowley. My grandfather Jose "Cheveta" Chavez was a major part of that story, and I am interested in copying the book for my children, but I would also like to send it to a screenwriter sometime in the future because it is an incredible memoir.
