He was predeceased by: his parent Refugio; his brother Anthony Varela; and his aunts and uncles, Raymundo Varela, Joe, Rito De La Garza, Rosie Ellis, Agnes Barrera and Emma Salinas.
He is survived by: his mother Ramona D. Lopez of Lordsburg; his children, Anthony Varela (Arlene Martinez) of South Jordan, UT, Ashley Varela of Lordsburg and Tabitha Diaz of Tucson, AZ; his stepdaughter Crystal Gonzales Villapondo; and his siblings, Refugio Varela "Cuco" Jr. of Lordsburg, Frank Talavera, Connie Morales, Bea Placencia, Sylvia Madero, Rosemary Martinez, Marsha V. Jacquez (Jason) of Lordsburg, Tias, Eloisa Unruh, Rita Quintana, Annie Varela and Corrina Cooper. He is also survived by his six grandchildren.
