He was predeceased by: his father Leopoldo Gomez; his wife Yolanda Yvonne Gomez; his mother-in-law Virginia Varela; his brother-in-law Jerry Varela (Leopoldo Gomez); his brother Blas Jerome "Jerry" Gomez (Michael Gomez); and his niece Victoria M. Tsosie Gomez.

He is survived by: his children, Michelle Barraza (Antonio) and Jose R. Gomez Jr.; his grandchildren, Steven Armijo, Monique Armijo and Damien Martinez; his mother Maria M. Gomez; his siblings, Freddy, Alicia (Rudy Gallegos), Maria Angelina "Angie" Hernandez, Richard A. "Tony" Gomez (Anna Lucero) and Kristina "Tina" Jeanette Gutierrez; and his godsons, Mario Gomez, Joseph I. Gomez and Ernie Gomez. He is also survived by nephews, nieces and cousins.
