He was predeceased by: his parents, Carpenter Smith and Amy Smith; his siblings, Winnie, Phyllis, Jean, Kenny and Jerry; his parents-in-law, Sarah Simpson and Bill Simpson; and his grandson Patrick William Tays.
He is survived by: his wife Mamie Smith; his children, Jennifer Simpson, Shelley Smith (John Ostendorf), Roland "Joey" Smith, Steven Smith (Sandy), Carrie Wagner (Tab Tidwell) and Patrick Tays (Tammy); his grandchildren, Lane Dale (Kyndrah), Lana Dale, Lance Dale, Christopher Stringer, Craig Stringer, Roland "Joey" Smith II, Tanner Smith, Taylor Cheshire-Denham, Mamie Lauren Lust, Miranda, Leichen Wagner and Samuel Tays; and his pet Trixie. He is also survived by numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
