With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Ella Smith of Hobbs, New Mexico, born in San Augustine, Texas, who passed away on October 30, 2023 at the age of 78. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Eula Evans and Robert C. Brooks; her sisters, JoAnn Thomas and Esther Brooks; her nieces, Rita Sampson, Vanessa Thompson and Ramona Brooks-Gatson; and her granddaughter April Baker.
She is survived by: her children, Steve Smith, Mike Smith (Soraya), Timmy Smith, Sharon Smith, Sherry Smith, Kenneth Smith, Patrick Smith, Arnett Lavow, Jr., Carl Smith (Carla), Chris Smith (Monalisa), Ruby Smith, Rodney Smith, Jeff Carrethers, Vertis Gibson, Sr. and Keenan Waits; her siblings, Mary Mason (Robert) and Robert Brooks (Connie); her aunts, Ella Turner and Eliza J. Singleton; her uncle J. C. Boykins; her brother-in-law Archie Woods; her daughters-in-law, Alexandria Norwood, Nury Pando and Bobbie Kostelecky; her godmother Essie Mae Martin; her friends, Mary Jordan, Nellie Armitige, Earline Johnson, Raymond Mitchell, Vivian Heckard, Pam Heckard, Jackie McNelty, Stella Cook, Linda Brice, Ruby Faye Chapman, Tommie Markham and Ida Mae Lewis; and her caregiver Angie Lacy. She is also survived by thirty-three grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
