He was predeceased by: his parents, Romualdo Vela and Emelia Vela. He is survived by: his wife Elena; his children, Cindi Stephenson, Charlie Ortega (Bernadette), Corina Reza (Mike Reza), Lydia Castillo (Librado) and Terry Vela (Alicia); and his sister Angie Cabrerra. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
