He was predeceased by: his wife Josie Abeyta Mares; his brothers, Chano Mares, Hilbert Mares and Albert Mares; and his son Tommy Mares Jr..
He is survived by: his daughters, Pauline Mares of Fort Sumner and Mary Lou Segura (Benny) of Fort Sumner; his brothers, Robert Mares of Belen and Joe Ruben Mares of Albuquerque; his grandchildren, Ben Segura (Angel) of Fort Sumner, Jerome Segura (Tish) of Fort Sumner and Michael Mares of Las Cruces; and his great grandchildren, Jude, Jazelle, Joaquin, Sienna, Savanna and Sailor Segura. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
