He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Lee J. Gatlin and Evelyne McDonald; his wife Beulah Gatlin; his sons, Michael Gatlin (Barbara) and Glen Gatlin (Melissa); and his siblings, Richard Gatlin (Dolores), Cole Gatlin (June) and Sandy Oakes (Jim). He was also cherished by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
