He was predeceased by: his parents, Jose Castillo and Genoveva Marquez; his siblings, Elena Castillo and Jose Castillo; and his niece Josefina Morales.

He is survived by: his wife Maria Castillo; his grandchildren, Adrianna Bustos-Castillo, Rosa, Cesar Castillo, Greg Lucero-Castillo, Claudia, Maru Castillo-Bejarano and Luis; his sister Leonor; his brother-in-law Cirilo Morales; and his former wife Maria Bejarano. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
