He is survived by: his wife Sue Freeland of Dexter; his son Brian Freeland (Gaynette); his grandchildren, Beaty and Shelby Freeland of Dexter; his children, Angela Mints (Wayne) of Mansfield, Texas. and Tyler Mints (Grace); and his granddaughters, Evelyn Sue and Helen June of Odessa, Texas..
A memorial service was held on Sunday, April 13th 2025 at 4:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Dexter (201 W 5th St, Dexter, NM 88230).
James served on the Dexter School Board, where he championed education and made significant contributions to the children of Dexter.
