He was predeceased by: his parents, Juan Chavez and Dora Chavez; his wife Mary Chavez; and his siblings, Isidro Chavez, Antonia Chavez and Manuel Chavez.
He is survived by: his children, John Chavez Jr., Gary Chavez (Jane), Angie Sandoval (Rick), Patsy Urban (Joe), Kenneth Chavez (Teresa) and Gina Casaus (B. J.); his brothers, Alex Chavez (Trinnie) and Gilbert Chavez; and his sister-in-law Loretta Chavez. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
