He was predeceased by: his mother Nora Morgan-Maestas; his son Joseph Alejandro Maestas; his grandson Samuel Cotinola; his niece Amanda Duran; and his nephew Robert Maestas.

He is survived by: his father Juan Maestas Sr.; his sons, Anthony Maestas and Carlos Cotinola; his stepchildren, Eric Leaton and Sandra Cotinola; his granddaughter Mariela Cotinola; and his siblings, Dolores, Diane, Ramona Maestas and Armando Maestas (Kelsey).
