He was predeceased by: his parents, Jose Maria Chapa and Francisca Chapa; his siblings, Blas Chapa, Trinidad Chapa and Maria Bazan; and his sons, Jose Ricardo Chapa (Sara) of Fort Worth and Marco Antonio Chapa.
He is survived by: his wife Petra Chapa; his sister Marcela Reyes; his children, Sonia Vigansky (Chuck) of Syracuse and Daniel Chapa (Lisa) of Antelope, California.; his grandchildren, Shane Jiron, Ryan Vigansky, Megan Vigansky, Lauren Vigansky, Kalli Armstrong, Cheyenne Rea, Savannah Bremmer, Kaitlyn Chapa, Taylor Chapa, Justin Maese, Celina Chapa, Mason Chapa and Gavin Chapa; and his great grandchildren, Lindsey Chapa, Valerie Chapa, Tyler Vigansky, Ernie Jiron and Emmett Jiron.
