He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Abram Hassel and Katherine Van Hassel; his children, Leann Mehrer of Dickinson, ND, Abram Van Hassel (Jeanne) of Westtown, NY, Richard Van Hassel (Joy) of Watkinsville, GA and Barbara Van Hassel of Wanaque, NJ.; his grandchildren, Katherine Mehrer, Richard Mehrer (Alicia), Bram Van Hassel (Kaylei), Dan Van Hassel (Bridget), Emily Van Hassel and Michael Van Hassel; his great grandchildren, Cole, Robert, Daniel, Ashlynn, Sorcha, Lincoln and Margot; his sister Jackie Kort of Glen Rock; his friend Willie Sikkema; his wife Helen; and his sister Anita Blauvelt. He was also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Dick's name to either the Eastern Christian Children's Retreat, 700 Mountain Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481, or the Holland Christian Home, 151 Graham Avenue, North Haledon, NJ 07508.
