He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Patrick Sheffel, Sr. and Mabel Grace Sheffel (Burdef); his daughter Ellen Grace; his sons-in-law, Nick Vander Wall, Peter Farin and James Rapp Sr; his grandson Joseph DeGraw; and his sister Anne Whitley.

He is survived by: his daughters, Charlotte Elizabeth Farin, Theresa Ann Rapp, Joanne Amelia Tidwell, Patricia Josephine Cundari (Mitchell), Linda Joyce Sheffel (Frank Begnoche) and Deborah Jean Kicinski (Richard); and the mother of his children Helen Wikoff. He is also survived by grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
