Daniel P. Minogue Obituary

Daniel Patrick Minogue passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 30, 2023. His parents, Daniel Patrick and Florence (Flay) Minogue, welcomed their oldest son Daniel on May 30, 1936 in Bronx, New York. Dan enjoyed over sixty years of marriage with the love of his life, Elizabeth (Bohan), before her passing in December of 2020. They raised their family in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey and attended Most Blessed Sacrament in Franklin Lakes, NJ and St. Elizabeth’s in Wyckoff, NJ.

Dan grew up in Riverdale, NY, attended Fordham Preparatory School and graduated from Fordham University in 1958 with a Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) scholarship. In his parish and neighborhood, Dan was known for his basketball skills and early entrepreneurial exploits trading cars and selling fireworks. His innate ability to craft a deal allowed him to earn pocket money as a kid and served him well in his career. After graduation, Dan was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force and trained as a pilot, serving active duty in Colorado. His athleticism led him to be recruited to play on the official Air Force Volley Ball Team, earning All American honors. The years in Colorado always held a special place in Dan and Liz’s hearts where they perfected their ski skills and enjoyed the mountains. After his honorable discharge, Dan’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to sales at American Can Company where his career advanced rapidly into management, relocating several times including the happy years in Atlanta, Georgia. Later, Dan was recruited to serve as the VicePresident and Head of Sales for Precision Value Corporation in New York where he supported his clients loyally and played a critical role in building the aerosol industry internationally, elected as President of the National Aerosol Association and Chairman of CAPCO (The Consumer Aerosol Products Council.) He and Liz built lifelong friendships with customers and colleagues through memorable visits to resort destinations, sporting events and the perennial favorite Walkers Cay, Bahamas.

In Franklin Lakes, Dan was a beloved football and baseball coach often winning titles through his dedication and disciplined practice. He tirelessly coached hundreds of players through the years how to swing a bat and catch a ball. Later he would log long travel hours to cheer on his many grandchildren on ball fields, courts and ice rinks. He also rarely missed cheering on the New York Giants, even holding season tickets. Dan, an avid lifelong golfer, played on courses around the world and especially adored his friends and staff at Ridgewood Country Club.

Dan cherished family time with his children and grandchildren and loved hosting annual Thanksgiving celebrations including epic front yard touch football contests. In addition, Dan was widely known for his commitment to helping others. He tirelessly and generously supported extended family, neighbors and friends who faced hardships and mentored countless individuals on career matters always readily sharing his vast business network. Dan knew someone everywhere. He instilled a sense of service and patriotism in his family and community. His joyful sixty year marriage to Liz and the faith they shared formed the bedrock of his life. The loss of Liz just over two years ago proved the greatest hardship he ever faced. Today his family rejoices knowing that Dan and Liz are dancing in heaven in the presence of God.

Dan is survived by his devoted children Barbara (John) Wallace, Daniel (Lori) Minogue, Regina (William) Sullivan and Michael (Renee) Minogue, his 17 grandchildren Michael, Colleen, Matthew, and Jack Wallace, Molly (Michael) Lubke, Tara, Daniel and John Minogue, Meghan, Kelly, William and Kathleen Sullivan, David, Elizabeth, Bohan, Marie and George Minogue, as well as two (2) great-grandchildren Julian Bernard and Breeda Lubke. He will be missed deeply by his siblings, Gail (Al, deceased) Vinci, Donald (Susan) Minogue and his wife’s siblings Audrey (Martin) Sinnott, Thomas (Diane) Bohan and Barbara Bohan.

Visitations for Daniel will be held on Thursday, October 5, 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481 (http://www.vpfh.com).

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 6, at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. Daniel’s Funeral Mass will be live-streamed at saintelizabeths.org/live-streaming.

The interment will follow at Christ the King Cemetery, 980 Huron Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ 07417.
