He was predeceased by: his father Joseph David Yates Sr.; his brothers, Jeffrey Thomas Yates Sr. and Gregory Albert Yates Sr.; and his grandparents, Mary, Albert White, Martha and John T. Yates Sr..

He is survived by: his children, Jermaine Gant and Lauren Gant (Mother Hattie L. Yates); and his siblings, Larry Yates and Deanna Yates. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family will accept donations towards the funeral expenses.
