He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Poesl and Else Poesl; his son John Poesl; and his brother Thomas Poesl. He is survived by: his wife Halina Poesl; his sons, Walter, Eric (Dawn) and James (Deborah); his grandchildren, John (Amanda), Matthew, Valerie, James and Jessica; his siblings, Ernest and Joyce Lubach (John Garner); and his sister-in-law Sister Sophie. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
