Stamatios Savas Lavdas Obituary

Stamatios Savas Lavdas of Willingboro, passed away Saturday January 8, 2022 at Virtua Hospital Mt. Holly at the age of 86. Born in Trenton, Stamatios was a longtime resident of Willingboro. He honorably served his country as a member of the army. He served in Germany during the Korean War. He was employed as a chef for the Vincentown Diner for many years until his retirement. Stamatios was a professional wrestler for the WWWF in the 1970's. He remained active in many sports throughout his life. He was almost drafted by the New York Yankees when he graduated high school in 1954, but was talked out of playing professional ball by his parents because "there was no money in it.".

He enjoyed bowling and in fact bowled from his early 20's up until 5 years ago. He was also an avid fisherman. He was a very active Little League baseball and softball coach in Willingboro for over 40 years. Even after his coaching days ended, he still supported his grandchildren by attending their games. He was also a fan of all Philadelphia sports, particularly the Phillies and Eagles. Despite his love of sports, his faith was even more important to him. He was a very active member of St. Thomas G.O. Church in Cherry Hill.

He will also be remembered as a loving person who was known by and meant a lot to all who knew him. He will also be remembered as someone whose life was governed by pride and integrity in all he did. Stamatios was predeceased by his sister Violet Stavaris. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (nee Farr), his children; Timothy, Leonidas and Kathleena Lavdas and Albert Fletcher, his grandchildren; Alexander, Jazmine (Travis), Michael T., Michael O., Brandi, Jonathan and Ryan as well as 8 great grandchildren.

A viewing for Satmatios will be held from 10am – 12pm, Friday January 14, 2022 at St. Thomas G.O. Church, 615 Mercer St., Cherry Hill, NJ 08002. Funeral services will begin at the church at noon. Burial will follow services in Lakeview Memorial Park, Rt. 130 N., Cinnaminson.
