He was predeceased by: his wife Nancy Bretz of Harrisburg; his parents, Alva Sr. and Iris J.; and his brother Garrett. He is survived by: his daughter Nicole Karl Ernst (Joseph); his grandchildren, Addison and Zachary; his son Adam (Christine); and his grandchildren, Ava and Adam. He is also survived by children and four grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society and condolences sent directly to his family.
