He is survived by: his wife Corinne Coates (Kleinheksel); his sister Lorene Burandt of Rochester, N. Y.; his children, Kendrea DeLauter (Coates) of Occoquan, John R. Coates Jr. of Washingtonville, N. Y. and David Coates (Tara) of Columbia; and his grandchildren, Kevin Coates of Florida, N. Y., Kayla Coates of Buffalo, N. Y. and Candy Coates of Washingtonville, N. Y..
