He was predeceased by: his parents, Gus Verhasselt and Marie Verhasselt; and his sisters, Germaine Zwier and Margaret Dinardo. He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth "Bettie"; his sons, Robert (Diane) and Craig (Patti); his grandchildren, Bryan (Sue Ann), Danielle (R. J.), James (Karen) and Eric (Christine); and his great grandchildren, Taylor, Kayla, Joey, Gianna, Emma, Michael, Gabby, Owen and Joel.
