He was predeceased by: his wife Irene; his daughter Patricia Pyryt; his parents, John and Sophie; and his brothers, Frank, Edward, Robert and Casmir.

He is survived by: his daughter Deborah Thomas (John); and his grandchildren, Kimberly Santangelo (Robert), Rachel Thomas (Matthew McCrickard) and David Pyryt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joseph's name to St. Jude's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-9959.
