He was predeceased by: his parent Shirley M Bates (Smith) of Vineland; his grandparents, Rev. Raymond J Bates and Myrtle E Bates (Hawkins) of East Greenwich, R. I.; his father Newton Vaughn Bates; his brothers, Richard and Kenneth G Bates of Chicago, IL; and his nephew Richard G Bates II (Richie).
He is survived by: his son William J Bates (Mariah McGowen); his granddaughters, Sophia Mae Bates of Dover, NH. and Aria Rose Bates of Dover, NH.; his girlfriend Louise MacGregor; his siblings, Brenda L Dyer (William), Raymond J Bates II (Ellen) of Buena, NJ and Donald E Bates (Terry) of Hyndman, PA; his sister-in-law Pam E Bates; his brother John P Bates (Yolanda) of Acworth, GA.; and his nieces and nephews, Sharleen N Dyer, Rebecca E Dyer, Shirley M Bates, Ashley N Bates, William C. Dyer, Raymond C Bates, Donnie E Bates II, Charles Erhart and Jonathon M. S.
