He was predeceased by: his parents, Bapubhai Desai and Kusumben Desai; and his brother Shirish Desai. He is survived by: his wife Usha Desai; his daughters, Maya Desai (Edison Guerra), Sonya Desai (Susan Blake) and Anita Desai (Shawn Harry); his grandchildren, Priya Guerra, Amara Guerra and Emiel Harry; and his brother Anoop Desai.

The family has requested memorial donations to the Dementia Society of America in lieu of flowers.
