With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of John Brendan Shanahan of Toms River, New Jersey, born in New York, New York, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on March 28, 2025 at the age of 71. He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael J. and Mary B. Shanahan; and his brothers, Kevin and Michael T. Shanahan. He is survived by: his son Michael H. Shanahan (Sarah); his siblings, Helen Wilkens, Anne Niosi, Geraldine Romano and Eugene Shanahan; his former wife Marie M. Shanahan; his grandsons, Justin and John James "JJ"; and his friends, Josie and Donna. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Viewing was held on Thursday, April 3rd 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the O'Brien Funeral Home (2028 NJ-35, Wall Township, NJ 07719). A Mass was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Margaret Church (300 Ludlow Ave, Spring Lake, NJ 07762). A burial was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 from 11:30 AM to 11:45 AM at the St. Anne Cemetery (1610 Allenwood Rd, Wall Township, NJ 07719).
