Veronica King Obituary
Veronica King departed this earthly existence on May 20, 2020 with her family at her side. She was 92 years old.
Born in Manhattan, NY to Hamilton and Floresa King, Veronica was a lifelong resident of the city before joining her daughters in Scotch Plains, NJ 6 years ago. She attended primary school at P.S. 101 in Harlem, went on to secondary school at Seward Park High School in Lower Manhattan and then transferred to Central Needle Trade where she learned the art of design and sewing.
Veronica had a long career with the NY Telephone for 20 years eventually retiring at a supervisory level in 2009. While working full time Veronica also attended BMCC and obtained her Associate’s Degree in Nursing. After retiring from the NY Telephone, she continued her education earning a Bachelor of Arts from CCNY in 1993. While in college Veronica performed in many college productions. She then starred in several Off-Broadway productions with the Titus Walker Ensemble Company. Veronica was honorably featured in the NY Amsterdam News on May 11, 2000 paying tribute to her starring role in the Titus Walker production of “For the Love of my Black Woman”. Titus Walker named Veronica “The Mother of the Theater”. Veronica also appeared on The David Letterman Show.
Veronica joined the Auxiliary Police Force and served the community for several years.
Veronica was active in St. Paul’s Church in Manhattan.
Veronica is best remembered for her sharp wit, spunk, feistiness and pursuing her ambitious dreams (which she made a reality).
