He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Christine C Coleman; his children, James, Jr. (Cheryl), Ronald (Edith), Kevin (Julie), Elaine Gibson (Edward), Gloria Wallace, Helen Divens (Gary) and Lynn Coleman; and his sons-in-law, Austin Wallace, Sr and Leroy Bowick. He was also cherished by 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
