He was predeceased by: his wife Judith Schafer; his parents, Ellsworth Schafer (Jack) and Edith Lykins; his brother William E. Schafer (Catherine) of Millville, NJ; his stepsiblings, Bobby Lykins and Geraldine Samuels; and his sister Alice Vautier.

He is survived by: his children, Penni Foster (Ronald) of Pennsville, NJ and Ellsworth C. Schafer Jr. (Ligaya) of Vineland, NJ.; and his grandchildren, Darrah Pilieri (David), Richard Foster (Lindsey), Kysten Ayars (Ryan), Kelsey Schafer, Holli Pierce (Dylan), Cindi Strong (Dominic), Ronni Foster and Elijah Foster. He is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren, 2 nieces and a nephew.
