He was predeceased by: his sister Ann Dougherty; and his grandson Jenner Carey Bryan. He is survived by: his daughters, Sheila Carey Bryan and Lisa Carey; his son-in-law Matt Ewend; his son Michael; his daughter-in-law Kristen Carey; and his grandchildren, Nash, Kelly, Abby Carey-Ewend, Patrick and Adam Carey.

He created the Raymond B. Carey Foundation, named after his father, which later evolved into the Carey Center for Democratic Capitalism.
