He is survived by: his wife Ann Lee Morgan; his children, K. Jodi Gear of Butte and Christopher of Reno; his former wife Sharon Smith; and his sister Kate Redding. He is also survived by four grandchildren.
Upon graduation in 1956, with Fulbright and Johnson Foundation support, he headed to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to learn about computers, still in the early stages of development.
