He was predeceased by: his parents, James Hargrave and Mary-Alice Hargrave; his sister Irma Jean Hargrave-Gibbs; and his uncles, Lincoln Green and Harvey Moore.

He is survived by: his wife Laurie Hargrave; his sons, James E. Hargrave III (Jessica), Delonce X. Hargrave and W. Miguel Sanchez; his granddaughters, Jeselle S. Hargrave and Ximora Z. Scott; his son Chris Fountain; his sisters, Phyllis H. Evans and Sara A. Eason (Calvin); his goddaughter Daniellee E. Evans; his nephew Calvin Eason IV; and also Dale Manning. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, family, coworkers, friends, and community children.
