He was predeceased by: his parents, Thelma Thompson and John Edward Carey; and his brother Reginald Corbin. He is survived by: his wife Claudette "Nancy" Carey; his children, Andrea Bynum (John), Sandra Thompson, Keshia Shoats (Michael), Timeka Brandon and Andre Thompson; his brother Edward Carey (Norma); and his aunt Annie Lucas. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren.
