He was predeceased by: his parents, Florence Shafer (Dornblazer) and Alvin Shafer; and his siblings, Charles, John, Harold, Robert Shafer and Shirley Galante.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Kohler; his children, Jill Deemer (Phil) of Raubsville, PA, Richard Shafer, Jr., Gary Shafer (Jennifer) of Fairless Hills, PA, Kathy Moyer (William) of Easton, PA and Melissa Shafer (Mathew Fachet) of Hellertown, PA; and his sister Mae Rapp of Easton. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
