He was predeceased by: his parents, Cornelius H. Gockel and Delia Gockel; his siblings, Eileen Coviello and Bernard Gockel; his son James Gockel; and his granddaughter Jackie Gockel.

He is survived by: his children, Thomas (Marie Gockel), Kathy (Jack Frenchu), David (Lynn Gockel), Daniel (Linda Gockel), Brian Gockel (Robert Lutz), Carolyn Gordon, Susan (Nicholas Dazzo) and Jane (Randy Aldrich); his grandchildren, Jaesy, Alex, Jack, Tommy, Steven, Nicholas, Scout, Connor, Danny, Delia, Richard, Anita, John, Brendan and Joseph; and his great grandchild Alpha. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
