He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John F. and Florence; his wife Elizabeth "Betsy" Cave; his children, Cindy (Michael Asplint), Kim (Jay Doskis), Susan (Larry Holtz) and John (Caroline Cave, Jr.); his grandchildren, Lauren Cleri, Monica Atcheson, Timothy Jay Doskis, Alexander Asplint, Kirsten Cave and Brynne Cave; his great grandchildren, Finnegan Atcheson and Everleigh Atcheson; and his siblings, Robert (Ruth Cave) and Joan Williams. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
