It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Roger Smith Sr. (Paterson, New Jersey), born in Jackson, North Carolina, who passed away on January 16, 2019, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Turner Smith and Margie Smith; his children, Thurman Coates, Ricky Smith, Helen A. Smith and Tony Smith; and his sisters, Dora Arrington and Annette Smith Jordan.
He is survived by: his wife Helen Smith of Paterson; his children, Sherry Smith, Roger Smith Jr (Shertel) of Paterson, Debbie Batten and Ralph Black of Columbia, Maryland; his brother James Smith (Eunice) of Anderson; and his siblings-in-law, Nancy Smith of Paterson and Dennis Arrington of Jackson. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
