He was predeceased by: his parents, James Nelson and Rosa Richardson Nelson; and his siblings, Mary Nelson, James Nelson, Robert Nelson, Mike "Dobe" Nelson, Sarah Henderson, Mahalia "Freda" Nelson, Hattie Stewart, Charles Nelson, Sophie Austin, Isaac Nelson, George Nelson, Johnnie "Peewee" Nelson, Rosa Lee "Manda" Harden and Louise "Lou" Allen.
He is survived by: his daughter Abigail Lanell Nelson Howard; his wife Vernell Belton Nelson; his son-in-law Walter Howard; his grandchildren, Nile Jordan Howard of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Nia Joy Howard of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; his sisters, Alberta "Berta" Scott of Plainfield, Janie "Rick" Nelson of Plainfield and Gertrude "Gert" Nelson of Greenville; his godchildren, Frank and Mickey Clarkson of Camden; and also Estelle Howard. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
