Egon Kot Obituary

Egon Kot, passed away on September 9, 2024, born in Kassel, Germany on May 23, 1923.

Loving husband of the late Shirley Covitz Kot, son of Sam and Lily Kot. Brother to adoring sister Eda Kot who predeceased him.

Loving Father to Ellen Kot Resnick and her husband Steven Resnick, and Son Jeffrey B Kot .

Egon came to America from German with his family, escaping the Holocaust, and landed in NY Harbour on July 4, 1936, and lived in Paterson, NJ.

He went on after school to Optical School in Brooklyn, then off to the USArmy to fight Nazi, Germany, from where he fled. He served in many capacities while serving his Country, and was very proud to be an American, and hung the flag on every holiday in front of his home.

After WW2, he returned to Paterson, eventually met Shirley and built a life for them, he opened his own optical business in Passaic, NJ, and then moved to Clifton, NJ, where he and Jeffrey owned Kot Opticians and Hearing Aid Center, LLC.

He spent many summers with Shirley, and Ellen and Jeff in Manchester by the Sea , in Massachusetts, with his cousins up there, he and Shirley traveled often and cruised.

Egon was so proud of his 3 grand children, Peter and Jen (Abramson) Resnick of Needham, Mass, and Jaime and Elise (Fink) Resnick of SilverSpring, Maryland, and Elizabeth (Resnick) and Shawn Campbell of Glen Rock, New Jersey . He created the Magic Tree in his home in Pompton Plains, NJ, so his grandchildren would always find toys and more hanging from the branches when they visited from Marblehead, Mass, Egon also loved to joke around!

Then he went on to become a Great Grandfather, to Ali, Sydney, and Ben Resnick, then Hudson and Rhys Campbell, then Emmett and Finn Resnick. He truly had a relationship with each of them, and loved them.

He traveled a lot with his family well into his late 90's, a highlight was going back to his hometown of Kassel, Germany with his daughter Ellen and son in law Steve and some grand children and great grand children, to show them where he was born, and walk with him in his foot steps of where he grew up! He viewed himself as the protector of the family, and stood tall as the family patriarch! Family and good friends meant everything to him!
