He was predeceased by: his parents, Rosetta Chestnut Gene and John C. Hardee; his daughter Tammie Maultsby Williams; and his siblings, William Vance Smith Jr., Lillie McLean, Verna Daves and Diane Chestnut.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Chestnut; his children, Stacey Chestnut (Jermaine Lewis), Gary Maultsby of Paterson, N. J. and Terreance Maultsby of Paterson, N. J.; his grandchildren, Ja'Sherah Pilgrim of Myrtle Beach, S. C., Shakim Deas (Debre Deas) of Charlotte, N. C. and Fytier Lewis of Paterson, NJ; his siblings, Levada Cox, Susan Gibbs, Janice Jones (Donnie), Benjamin Chestnut (Loretta Chestnut) and James Chestnut of West Germany; and his siblings-in-law, Alice Mears of South Plainfield, N. J., Janice Jones (Rudolph) of Whiteville, N. C., Linda Brown (Lenard) of Lamar, S. C. and Raymond Dewitt (Dorothy Bullard). He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
