He was predeceased by: his wife Margaret; and his siblings, Frank and Isabel McBride. He is survived by: his children, Robert J. Murphy Jr. of Naples, FL, Margaret Mary Ryder (David) of Alexandria, VA, Sheila Azarian (late Michael) of Summit, NJ, James McDonnell Murphy (Margaret) of Cleveland, OH, Charlotte Cox (Joseph) of Johns Creek, GA and Lisa Dooley (Ryan) of Bernardsville, NJ.; his grandchildren, Maureen Graham (Tommy), Mac (Abby), Connor, Kevin (Emily), Daniel Murphy, Nick, Caroline Ryder, Charlotte, Michael Azarian, Molly, Megan Puterbaugh (Tyler), Katie, Jimmy Cox, Patrick and Colleen Dooley; and his great grandchildren, Maggie Graham and Charlie Murphy. He is also survived by his grandchildren doting over his two young great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to the Academy of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ.
