He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Mayo and Angelina Mayo; his son John R. Mayo; his brothers, John and Anthony Mayo; and his son-in-law Michael P. Neilan.

He is survived by: his wife Roberta Audrey Mayo; his children, Joseph Mayo (Patricia), Patti-Lynn Neilan and Dawn Gerbino (Mike); his grandchildren, Lynn (Phil), Brian (Amy), John (Kelley), Nicole (Sikan), Michael John (Leighann) and Christopher; his great grandchild Jack; and his sister-in-law Annette Mayo.
