He was predeceased by: his father John Blumberg; and his brother Gunar Blumberg. He is survived by: his wife Gunta Blumberg (Kivulis); his children, John E. Blumberg, Laila Blumberg and Astrida Blumberg; his grandchildren, Alexandra, Clara and Landon; and his siblings, Dr. Edwin Blumberg, Karl Blumberg and Ligita Rafaels. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
