He is survived by: his wife Nelida Malpica-Gonzalez; his children, Gilbert, Jr., Teresa Melendez and Noemi Gonzalez; his sister Elba Santiago; and his grandchildren, Alexa Gonzalez and Emilio Melendez. He is also survived by three great grandchildren.
