She was predeceased by: her parents, Joao Freire and Maria (Anjos); her husband Joao; her son Joao F. Santos (Bernadine "Bernie"); and her siblings, Maria of Jesus Tendeiro, Rosa Doce and Horacio Freire.

She is survived by: her children, Vera (Carlos M. Santos), Horacio (Santos Tendeiro), Ana Claudia (Luis) and Santos Tendeiro (Michelle); her grandchildren, Raquel, Rebecca, John and Jacqueline; her great grandchildren, Adriano, Naomi and Camila; and her grandchildren, Isaac, Corinne, Isabella, Michael, Vivienne and Lilah. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
